- The back story of your work

I created this video for our final COVID Command Center all hands meeting after being in a state of emergency for almost sixteen months. I was given the immense task of attempting to provide a retrospective of everything that we dealt with together, in less than five minutes. The resulting combination of archival footage, photos, and clips from my own projects are far from a complete record of everything that happened, but they hit on a lot of the key highlights. 

I drafted the script and my colleagues in the Joint Information Center made edits, with my colleague Lloyd Shand reading the voiceover. I originally only budgeted about 4 hours to edit this project in Premiere but ended up working well past midnight to track down just the right clips and photos for each moment, manually key framing each Ken Burns effect, making sure each clip had the right Lumetri Curve, and tinkering with the audio mix.

- How it impacted your organization

I received very positive feedback from the DSWs (Disaster Service Workers) who watched this video, and I believe it provides a meaningful digital memento of a very powerful, at times traumatic shared experience that we can all look back on for the rest of our lives. 

- How the project created an amazing experience for your constituents

I was surprised by the engagement this video received on social media - over 150,000 organic impressions across Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and almost 15,000 views in less than 24 hours. The positive feedback from constituents who offered their gratitude to DSWs and City leadership for guiding us through this pandemic was incredibly meaningful, and I think this video reflects the pride a lot of San Franciscans feel in our local government's accomplishments over the past sixteen months.

- How it met your organization's objectives

This video served the intended purpose of acting as a digital keepsake that DSWs can come back and rewatch anytime, share with their families, and hopefully use to help begin processing the anxiety, trauma, and pent up emotions so many of us have.
